How to use these pages

  2. How to use these pages

Start with the first paragraph of the page. It carries the answer, the period, the denominator and the uncertainty in one place. If you read nothing else, read that.

Then read the table. Each row shows a measure, its result, the two ends of its interval and the number of ratings behind it. A wide interval means a small base, and a small base means the result should not be compared with anything. The filter above the table only hides rows that are already on the page; it never loads a different area.

Numbers in the tiles are the same numbers as in the table, shown large. Charts repeat them as labels, so you never have to read a value off a shape.

Two habits keep a comparison honest. First, check the denominator before you compare two areas. Second, check the interval; where two intervals overlap, the two areas are not distinguishable on that measure.

For a single premises, use the link to the record published by the Food Standards Agency. That record is the live version, and it is the one with legal standing. Our page is a dated snapshot and a calculation on top of it.

On a business list, search by business name and filter by result or age of inspection. All records are in the original HTML. Area pages link both restaurants and takeaways; each keeps its own denominator and interval.
